Mark Twain — ‘Summer is the time when it is too hot to do the job that it was too cold to do last winter.’
It’s the season of self-expression, leaving your comfort zone and finding yourself. This can be hard to do with low self-confidence or a lack of self-esteem. Now is a better time than any to figure out how to work on that confidence so you can be the best version of yourself come summertime. Here are some ways you can do so over time!
- Skin and body care

One way to up your confidence as summer comes around is to invest time and effort into your personal care. Whether it’s implementing a skincare routine, a new hair removal technique or working out, there’s never a better time to start than now.

- Self-care and mindfulness

Self-care and self-confidence come hand in hand. Taking time to assess your needs can help you to identify what makes you feel good about yourself. Practices such as mindfulness and gratitude can also help to reduce stress, improve emotion regulation, and improve sleep.
Practising self-affirmations can be powerful, telling yourself something enough times can help you reinforce positive thoughts – some examples include
- I choose to believe I am confident
- I am confident and value myself
- I am confident in my abilities
- I let go of limiting beliefs and choose to trust myself
- Good people, good feelings

Surrounding yourself with the people who uplift and support you best can help how you feel about yourself. It can be hard to identify the negative people around you but they tend to be the ones who put you down, even just through jokes, this can drain your confidence.
- Challenge yourself
Setting small goals that can push you out of your comfort zone can help set you up for bigger challenges. To become confident, you have to build it gradually so doing something weekly or monthly that makes you nervous can help shake that feeling over time.
- Identify the negative voice
Negative thoughts and voices can come from extreme stress, anxiety or trauma. It’s important to learn how to control them, stand up to them and ignore them. This isn’t something that will happen overnight, you may need the help of a therapist or psychiatrist to determine where the negative thoughts are coming from.
