We’ve had a solid few days of spring sunshine so I think it’s only fair we allow ourselves some Summer Wardrobe shopping. As we creep into this new season, I’ll be going through some emerging spring and summer trends you need to know about before you start filling your basket. This A/W was packed with some iconic fashion moments all through awards season straight to a refreshing Fashion Month and some trends that saw a spike will be sticking around.
I’ve never been much of an A/W girl so im excited to go through my summer trend expectations and even more excited to actually start buying them and planning outfits!
As you know from WCW A/W i’m going through abit of an aesthetic shift so im still figuring out how I want to dress right now let alone what i’ll be into in 2 months. However everything mentioned is definitely going on the Summer ‘24 pinterest board.
Lets get into it!
I think well be seeing some themes running through most of these trends, some may seem like they wouldnt fit together but the best outfits you’ll see this summer will, for sure, combine them. Quiet luxury and minimalism isn’t going anywhere, trickling down from the runway, pencil skirts, pant suits and trench coats were big. The ‘im just a girl’, coquette core will only get strong in summer, a lot of feminine, romantic styling. Think ballerinas and bows and maybe even florals.
Bottoms
These have been popping up everywhere and im quite obsessed. These ruffle mini skirts and shorts (or bloomers) are so fun and girly. I love a mini skirt, i’ll wear one all year around but these scream summertime-fun.
Another exciting skirt! These voluminous, balloon skirts are like an elevated pleated skirt, length and texture but 10x the drama. They’re pretty versatile too, can easily be styled with trainers and a tee for a dressed down look or with strappy heels and a pop of colour for a night out.
Micro is sooo in. these mini shorts are sucha good alternative for the girls who love a mini skirt but plan on getting tequila shots at the day party.
Tops
Unfortunately for my love of pasta, backless tops are in. Especially on a high neck summer dress, a backless detail with a dainty waist chain can elevate an otherwise basic look. Lace up or mesh works too.
Feeding into the femme frenzy, sweetheart necklines and the milkmaid dresses will be in. slightly too cottage core for me but still a cut trend I might dip a toe into. These will be perfect for the baecation date nights and birthday girls celebrating this summer.
Rodeo is sticking around for sure, if you think youre seeing a lot of cowboy boots just wait till July. Denim shirts and cuffed denim jeans (even together) will be all over the place, now would be a good time to scour the thrift shops for some good vintage Levi or Wrangler shirts and jeans.
This ones a lil country club core but I think these preppy Polo’s and rugby tops will become a streetwear summer staple. With some baggy shorts, trainers and a city bag, its the perfect effortless summer outfit.
Shoes
Speaking of streetwear, flat trainers might be the european shoe of the summer. Sambas, Gazelles, and Onitsuka Tigers will be everywhere. Lucky for us theres so many brands and versions and colourways now, theres pretty much a pair for everyone.
Ballerinas have been a come back I wasnt expecting to like so much. I love seeing them with cuffed jeans, I think it looks so chic. Mary Janes too, its been a good year for flats that arent sandals or trainers, they’re a really good inbetween to invest in.
Kitten heels coming back has been a Godsend for the anti-heel girls and you’ll be happy to know they’re not going anywhere. Thong kitten heels, in particular, are coming back for the summer as an elevated sandal. For the anti-kitten heel girls, the it girls will be in platform flip flops, you heard it here first.
