Im a firm believer that if my outfits are hot enough I won’t need a coat, but the way the environment is fighting for its life right now? Every outfit needs that extra layer.
I am also an advocate for less is more, so I’ve assembled the four types of coats you need to get you through A/W as well as how I like to style them. These four styles of coats will never go out of style, they’re staples in my closet and im certain you have at least one of them in yours.
Fur
@WiktoriaPoterajj @C1.Leon @NicoleBoehm
I live for a good fur jacket, styled right, they can pretty much be worn with anything and will immediately elevate your look. Add some layered necklaces, gold hoops and dark shades and you will have pretty much completed the ‘Mob Wife Aesthetic’.
Even dressed down with a heavy-weight grey tracksuit, you simply can’t go wrong.
My favourite place to shop for fur is Vintage Markets or thrift stores. Portobello Market specifically has a stunning collection of vintage furs at reasonable prices.
Leather
The best thing about leather jackets and coats is they come in endless styles so there is one that makes sense for every personal style. The aviator jacket blew up not long ago after Molly Mae sold out Zara’s Shearling Aviator stock, it’s easy to style with jeans and heels for dressy casual or with leggings, leg warmers and chunky trainers for day-to-day.
If the Aviator isn’t for you, do not fret. Leather blazers can refine your look, upscaling your jeans and a nice top combo, giving it a touch of edgy sophistication.
Puffer
Puffers are the underrated legends of the coat world. They don’t go with everything but the right one will get tons of wear, especially in my wardrobe. My go-to black puffer is from Weekday, after 3 years it’s still just as warm and looks as voluminous as when I first tried it on in the store. I wear it with mostly athleisure (tracksuits, leggings, jumpsuits) but it also works well over a hoodie, jeans and trainers for casual looks.
What Arsené Wenger did to longline puffers will never be replicated, no one will ever pull one off like he does but we can try. They’re the epitome of warmth and the 3-in-1 versions are the peak of puffer design in my opinion.
Windbreaker
@C1.Leon @_olhirst_ @PaigeRoguski
For the transitional period into spring, anoraks and windbreakers are my go-to. My favourite is my Superdry Softshell jacket, it comes in a gorgeous jade green shade and has enough warmth for me to throw on with just a T-shirt and chinos or straight-leg tracksuit bottoms.
I hope this was a helpful rundown of what coats I’m wearing this season. I appreciate you joining me on this journey as I build a closet that caters to my changing style.
